What a whirlwind ride!

"Bird's Eye View"

New Castle County, Delaware

I'd never been up in a helicopter before, but before I set foot on the ground again, some 60 minutes later, I was already planning what to shoot on my next trip up. My church wanted some aerial shots of their new property and asked me if I would take them. I excitedly agreed. I've always loved flying machines; from Piper Cubs to Lear Jets, from Snoopy and the Red Baron to WWII's B-17 and even to the chopper chasing down Joe Mannix in the TV series opener. It's all good as far I'm concerned. Anyway, yesterday I got to fly around New Castle County in a helicopter and man it was fantastic. Whirlybirds rock!  (More photos to follow.)

There was a time ...

Launch of Friendship 7

Launch of Friendship 7 with Astronaut, and future Senator, John Glenn February 2, 1962

... when a rocket launch stopped everyone in their tracks and garnered a world-wide audience. The event was, literally, mind-blowing that man could conquer space. And although strapping men and women in sideways chairs and lighting a huge fire underneath them has become somewhat routine these days, let us not forget what a simply incredible phenomenon has occurred right before our eyes in the last 50 years.  NASA has released some of their best photos, with Common License, on Flickr.

When you have a little free time, I encourage you to take a look back and reflect on the collection of creative minds that truly equaled the excitement and apprehension only someone like Christopher Columbus would ever have known. Click here to view the splendid NASA collection.
